HELLO BLOBS!

Well, Meesha and I have had a very cool couple of days, and our situation is much different to that of what it was the day before last.
We have begun the volunteering aspect of the trip, and are now safely with the english teacher. (where we will be staying) Our exact location is not known to us, but we are in a gorgeous part of ISAAN, near Chum Pae, in Kon Kean province... which is in the northeastern part of Thailand. The home that we are in is reminiscent of a teakwood jungle fort, and it is really cool. We cant post photos probably, because the internet is too slow, but with our words, we hope to describe the situation as well as possible.
The food has been excellent, with lots of pad thai consumed as well as tasty sticky rice and hot and sour soooooop. We are learning Thai at an alarming rate because even the English teacher is aborently unilingual. It is an awesome experience, and we are really glad to be in this part of Thailand! We are the only westerners around, people look at us and say, wow "That girl is so beautiful!" and then our host translates for us...We have gotten our picture taken and it is really great! We will keep blogging when we can, and we hope life at home is swell!
Oh, and dont forget to comment!

  4. It sounds and looks like you guys are in an awesome place!! Baba couldn't believe that you rode in a tuk tuk - she is amazed that people run around pulling passengers in those things (well, I'm sure you can imagine Baba talking about it!) Have a great trip!

  7. Hi there,

Klaas and Merel just looked at your pictures. They loved seeing you and were impressed to see an elephant and the golden statues. Merel (3.5y) wants to tell you something: "I'm behaving well at school. I want to give you a big kiss (and hug). Thomas is sweet. where is Lynne? do you have brown hair? Who's your friend? Thomas is veeeeeery sweet. Where's Luke? and his daddy? I have a lot of friends at school"
Klaas: "just say Hi! Tell him I'm fine"

    take care,
    Sandra & co

We have the spa music on and thats on the verge of dangerous as you know ... We miss you bouncing up the stairs Thom. And we are glad for this experience for you.

  10. Hey Thomichelle,

I don't know how much free time you have, but if you ever make it out to Chiang Mai (which isn't far from western Isan at least) then try to visit THIS little café:

    Nice Kitchen
    Moonmuang Road, Soi 6
    (Sompet Market)
    Chiang Mai

I don't know if the address helps you much, and when I was there the owner was in the process of moving across the street to a new building, but she should still be there somewhere. The surrounding market is fairly standard, but if you stay for a night or two, head out to the night bazaar and spend some time there. Chiang Mai was lovely when I was there, so if you have time...

I hope you're both healthy and happy. Stay cool.

    DAVID

  15. Thom called this morning. They are doing great. They will try to update this blog on the weekend when they go to a bigger city. It sounds like they are very rural... teaching three lessons a day so working hard. They would love to hear from all of us... so keep the comments coming and tell others about the blog!
